Why hire a locum vet?
Locum vets can be a great help when clinics need to fill positions on a temporary basis.
Perhaps you are short-staffed due to illness, leave or for other reasons. Locum vets are also a great option for smaller clinics that want to remain open when their primary veterinarian (often also the business owner) is away on holiday.
However, finding the right locum vet can seem a daunting task... Will they be competent? Will they follow the policies & procedures of your clinic and fit in well with the other staff? Will your clients like them?
It is also natural to be wary of inviting a stranger into your clinic to be the face and reputation of your business while you are away.
But if you can find the right locum vet, staying open and continuing to serve your clients is definitely the better option, rather than closing your clinic or reducing hours due to sickness or vacation for example!
For these reasons - we recommend establishing a relationship with a locum vet you can trust.
